Breast Reduction

Breast reduction (mammoplasty) allows breasts to be reduced to a size that is more proportionate to the body.  The excessive weight of large breasts can create great discomfort,  leading  to back, shoulder, and neck pain, skin chafing, and shoulder indentions from tight bra straps.  In addition, large breasts can interfere with a woman’s ability to have an active lifestyle and can cause her to feel self-conscious about her appearance.  In a breast reduction procedure, Dr. Newall reduces breast fat, skin, and glandular tissues to resize the breasts and reposition the nipples, so they will be smaller and more proportional to the body.     Breast reduction should be postponed for those women who plan to breast feed, and for girls whose breasts are not yet fully developed.  However,  if excessively large breasts are causing  serious difficulties, Dr. Newall may recommend surgery for a younger patient. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes 3-5 hours.  Recovery time is 7-10 days, and most patients are able to return to work in two weeks.
