Dr. Newall specializes in laser treatment procedures for age spots, birthmarks, tattoos, as well as scar improvements and hair reduction. Dr. Newall will determine the most appropriate procedure for you, and will discuss risks from laser treatments that include burns from the heat of the laser energy and possible scarring.

Age Spots

Age spots are collections of pigment that are caused by exposure to the sun and appear on such places as the hands, face, back, arms, feet and shoulders. Laser technology is used to resurface the skin, which causes new skin cells to grow and produces a smoother complexion and more youthful appearance.

Recovery from laser surgery takes about three to five days and after about two weeks, patients are able to wear makeup again and resume most normal activities.

Birthmarks and Tattoos

Laser technology is successful in treating and removing birthmarks (including port wine stains), tattoos and other kinds of pigmented lesions. More than one treatment may be needed to reduce or eliminate the discoloration associated with the birthmark, tattoo or lesion. Following laser treatments, most patients are able to immediately return to normal activities.

Scar Improvements

The use of ultra-pulse laser technology can safely improve the appearance of some scars, as well as surgically realign the scar along natural lines, narrow the scar or flatten the scar. Most improvements can be seen after only a few sessions, and in most cases, without the use of anesthesia.

Hair Reduction

Laser technology is useful in the removal of unwanted hair for both men and women. The laser allows for scanning of each area of the skin that needs treatment, as opposed to electrolysis where each hair follicle is treated with a needle.

While there is no method of hair removal that is completely permanent, over a period of time, laser hair removal can permanently reduce unwanted hair. Dr. Newall will discuss your options for hair reduction, as the amount and length of your treatments depends on factors such as hair and skin color; sun exposure and use of certain medications. Some patients may experience temporary reddening in the treated area following laser treatments, but most normal activities will not be interrupted.
