Restylane and Perlane are hyaluronic gel formulations that smooth away facial wrinkles and restore volume to the skin. They are synthetic versions of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced by the body which gives the skin its youthful volume and elasticity.
These products provide full corrections of moderate to severe facial lines and folds such as:
- the nasolabial folds–the parentheses-shaped lines that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- the corners of the mouth
- the marionette lines that extend downward from the corners of the mouth
- the lips lines that form along the upper lip
Restylane vs. Perlane: How Do I Choose?
Both Restylane and Perlane restore facial volume and correct moderat to severe wrinkles and folds. However, because Perlane is formulated with a larger gel particle size, it is especially effective at treating wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection into the skin. During your consultation with Dr. Newall, he will determine the hyaluronic gel formulation that will best treat your particular concerns.
How Long Will The Benefits Last?
The results of Perlane typically last 9 months to a year, while Restylane's benefits last approximately 5-6 months. To get even longer lasting results, a follow up treatment for Restylane can be made 4.5 to nine months after the initial Restylane treatment session. When this schedule is followed, on average, only half of the Restylane administered at the initial treatment is required to achieve full correction at the follow up session. Results can last as long as 18 months when Restylane is layered in this manner.
