Rhinoplasty

Nose surgery (rhinoplasy) improves the appearance of the nose  and brings it into balance with  other facial features for a more attractive overall appearance.   Individuals may choose to have rhinoplasty to reduce the size or width of their nose, to smooth a bump on the bridge, or to correct asymmetry.  In this procedure, Dr. Newall reshapes the nose by manipulating the bone, cartilage, and soft tissues that compose its structure.  He most often uses a closed incision technique, where the incision is placed inside the nose to leave a concealed scar.   In the less commonly performed open incision technique, an incision is made in the strip of skin between the nostrils.   Once the reshaping  is complete, Dr. Newall will place a splint on the nose and pack the nostrils with gauze to provide support during the initial days of healing.  Nose surgery is performed in about 1-2 hours on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.    For the first few days after surgery, a patient should plan to stay in bed with the head elevated.   Most patients can return to work in 7-10 days after surgery and resume exercise in 2-4 weeks.

Correction of a Deviated Septum and Related Breathing Difficulties
A large or crooked septum, which is the partition inside the nose that separates  the two sides, can obstruct air passages, making it difficult to breathe.  Dr. Newall  may be able to correct this issue by performing a septoplasty procedure in conjunction with  a rhinoplasty.
