Body Shapes in Houston, TX
To figure out where you want to be, we need to start with where you are. There are four traditional categories that we usually use to define body shapes: the rectangle, the apple, the pear, and the hourglass.
A study by Women’s Magazine of over 6,300 women gives this breakdown of female body shapes:
- Rectangle: 46.12%
- Apple: 13.83%
- Pear: 20.92%
- Hourglass: 8.4%
Rectangular Shape
Rectangle-shaped bodies come in all sizes, but the one thing they have in common is a lack of curves. Fortunately, a little fat can go a long way! To give these rectangles some curves, Dr. Newall can take fat from the abdomen and back through liposuction and fat graft to the hips and buttocks.
*Disclaimer: Individual results may vary.
This patient of Dr. Newall’s was naturally shaped like an apple, with most of her excess fat stored in the abdomen. She had very thin legs and relatively no fat stored in the buttocks. Dr. Newall was able to redistribute her fat to her hips and buttocks, defining her waist and giving shape to her lower body.
Pear Shape
Pear-shaped bodies are beautiful and sexy if kept lean and toned, but the bone structure makes these bodies prone to storing fat in the hips and thighs. These unwanted fat deposits are difficult to get rid of through diet and exercise.
Dr. Newall specializes in body contouring of the abdomen and lower body that can help pear-shaped women define their waist and accentuate their curves. Liposuction of the hips, inner thigh, and outer thigh can keep pear-shaped bodies from appearing bottom heavy and out of balance.
Some women opt to balance out their figure with a breast augmentation. This can help pear shapes achieve an hourglass figure and make the waist look even slimmer.
Hourglass Shape
A 2010 psychology study found that males are most attracted to the hourglass figure. From big city executives to isolated African tribes, men from all walks of life choose this shape as a symbol of beauty. The best part of this study is that it is not determined by the size of the woman, but by her waist-to-hip ratio. At a size 2 or 22, men are going to find the hourglass shape more attractive than any other shape.
Psychologist Devendra Singh adds that “women with a 0.7 WHR (waist-to-hip ratio) are healthier in general, have better cardiac health, better mental health, less complications during pregnancy, are less likely to die during labor, have less post-partum depression and their offspring experience a slightly higher IQ score.” So, the male attraction to this shape is beneficial for them in more ways than one.”
Hats off to all of our hourglass bodies! You boast the ideal female form. Some problems that arise with an hourglass figure are unwanted fat stored in the thighs and possibly the flanks. Or, perhaps your proportions are too extreme, and you are in need of a breast reduction. Dr. Newall’s approach to the hourglass figure would be to keep the patient lean with targeted liposuction. A few years down the road, these are the patients that are looking for a breast lift or buttock lift to maintain their sexy figure.
Apple Shape
The apple body shape is characterized by a wide torso, full bust, and small hips and rear. Most of the body fat is stored in the abdomen. Apples like to say, “I wish I could take the fat in my stomach and move it to my rear.” Sound familiar? Well, you can.
Dr. Newall’s approach to an apple-shaped body is to use liposuction and fat grafting to redistribute fat from the abdomen to the hips and rear. This will define the waist and give the patient more of an hourglass shape.
