Post-Weight Loss Surgery (Body Lift) in Houston, TX

Losing weight is not only good for your body and health, but it is good for your overall self-confidence. However, many people do not realize that weight loss doesn’t always guarantee you will have the thin, toned, and sexy body you have been waiting for. After losing excessive weight and improving medical conditions related to obesity, you may want to achieve a desirable outward appearance. Dr. German Newall, a board-certified plastic surgeon, has helped countless men and women in Houston and the surrounding areas of Post Oak, Sugar Land, and Katy love what they see in the mirror.

WHAT IS THE FIRST STEP AFTER EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS?

First, we’d like to say congratulations on your weight loss journey! This is a great achievement and Dr. Newall would be honored to help you with the final step of your journey. Dr. Newall recommends post-weight loss surgery once you are at your goal weight (and you’ve maintained a consistent weight range) to give you optimal results.

At the consultation, you and Dr. Newall will discuss your medical history, concerns, and your aesthetic goals. Based on that conversation, Dr. Newall will recommend a treatment plan designed specifically for you.

Post-weight loss surgery can be a combination of procedures that are performed at the same time. In some cases, to achieve certain goals surgery will take place in 2 stages. Dr. Newall will decide if this is something that will work best for you and your goals.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A BODY LIFT?

A body and thigh lift is often a very large procedure, especially when focusing on multiple parts of your body at once. It is important to be in good overall health before undergoing this procedure. Make sure to discuss your medical history and any medications that you are taking with Dr. Newall prior to your surgery. Body and thigh lift surgery should not be done for approximately two years following the start of any massive weight loss program, and your weight should be stable for at least one year with no future weight loss expected. Dr. Newall will discuss your options with you during your consultation and answer any questions or concerns that you may have.

ABOUT UPPER AND LOWER BODY LIFTS:

When considering a body lift, you can decide to focus on the upper body or lower body. It is not typical to have both done during one surgical procedure. If you would like to have both an upper and lower body lift, Dr. Newall will discuss your options during your consultation and recommend a treatment that will achieve your goals and secure your safety.

The procedures involved in an upper body lift are:

  • Arm Lift (Brachioplasty): An arm lift (Brachioplasty) gives the upper arms a more toned and firm appearance through the removal of sagging skin and excess fat.

  • Breast Lift (mastopexy) and/or Breast Reduction:

  • A breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure that removes excess tissue and tightens the skin in the surrounding area.

  • Breast reduction is a plastic surgery procedure that reduces the breast fat, skin, and glandular tissues to resize the breasts and reposition the nipples; afterward, the breasts will be smaller and more proportional to the body.

  • Back Lift (torsoplasty): A torsoplasty removes excess skin and fat from your torso or back.

The procedures involved in a lower body lift are:

  • Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty) and/or Panniculectomy: In a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure, Dr. Germán Newall removes excess skin and repairs the weakened muscles to restore a flat, smooth appearance to the abdomen.

  • Outer (Lateral) Thigh Lift: A thigh lift, also known as thighplasty, will focus just on the thighs and create a more tightened, toned appearance.

When considering a thigh lift, you can decide to focus on the inner thighs, the outer thighs, or both areas at once.

An inner thigh lift focuses on the skin on the inner thigh, lifting and toning sagging skin. This procedure is what can create a thigh gap. During an inner thigh lift, Dr. Newall will access the underlying tissues of the inner thigh, while making the most discreet incision possible. There will be a slight scar as a result of the procedure, but this scar can usually be hidden by your underwear. He will concentrate on lifting and tightening the skin in that area and possibly removing some excess fat as well.

An outer thigh lift focuses on tightening skin on the front and outside of the leg. During this procedure, Dr. Newall will remove a certain amount of skin, depending on your goals, before pulling the remaining skin up and attaching it to the same area so that it is smooth. This procedure will tighten skin and is very helpful if you are dealing with excess skin after extreme weight loss. An outer thigh lift can also help lift the buttocks along with your thighs.

  • Buttocks lift: A butt lift removes sagging skin and excess fat while reshaping your waist, hips, and the lower back. This can be combined with a buttocks augmentation (Brazilian butt lift) to bring fullness back into the buttocks. Dr. Newall uses fat grafting to place your own fat back into the buttocks to create shape and volume.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY POST-WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY (BODY LIFTS)?

You will most likely be able to return to work one to two weeks after your body and thigh lift procedure. Your recovery time will mainly depend on how many areas of your body you have had treated. Dr. German Newall will discuss your recovery time and your post-operation instructions with you. It is very important to follow any post-surgery instructions closely to assure the best outcomes.

WHERE WILL THE PROCEDURE BE PERFORMED?

Post-weight loss surgery (Body lift surgery) is performed at our award-winning ACPS, The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS), which is the largest private plastic surgery center in Texas. The ACPS exceeds accepted standards for private surgical facilities and is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The ACPS offers four surgical suites, pre-operative consultation suites, and seven comfortable post-operative recovery suites, all staffed with medical professionals handpicked by our surgeons. You may need to stay overnight in one of our surgical suites depending on the extent of your surgery. Dr. Newall will discuss this with you during your consultation/consents.

HOW MUCH DOES POST-WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY COST?

While cost should not be the final factor on which you base your decision, we understand that it is an important consideration. You should first realize that even though you are considering elective surgery, it is still surgery. Safety must be your surgeon’s highest priority followed by patient satisfaction. At German Newall, MD we work to provide excellent service at a fair price.
