According to a report by RealSelf.com, this summer’s trend is the Brazilian Butt Lift, seeing a 28% increase in searches on their site. Buttock enhancement also boasts a 93% satisfaction rating from patients on the RealSelf.com forum, and it is now the fourth most popular procedure on their site.
I sat down with Houston Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Germán Newall to discuss the benefits of his Brazilian Butt Lift.
“The overall trend today is a round, curvy buttock that accentuates the waist and hips,” Newall says. “Size is still a matter of personal opinion, but generally people desire a lifted look.”
The popular term Buttock Lift is somewhat misleading, as the skin and tissue are not actually lifted. Technically, the procedure is called fat grafting because the patient’s own fat is removed from unwanted areas and used to shape the rear.
“I redistribute the fat to the top of the buttocks, giving the illusion that it has been lifted,” Dr. Newall says. “The results look and feel very natural, and patients are pleased with the lifted appearance.”
This patient had liposculpting and fat grafting to the buttocks by Dr. Newall.
By moving the fat instead of lifting the skin, the procedure requires only a few small entry sites rather than a large incision. The patient’s fat can also be used to add volume to the hips if the patient desires a fuller figure.
Another option for buttock enhancement is using a solid silicone implant. However, Dr. Newall does not use buttock implants due to the extremely high rate of infection.
“Over 25% of buttock implant patients develop complications,” says his patient coordinator, Patricia Escobar. “Very few reputable plastic surgeons will perform a buttock implant procedure.”
