What are Breast Implants?
A breast implant is a medical prosthesis that is filled with a gel-type liquid, implanted to restore or enhance a natural looking breast mound. Implants are long-lasting devices that can help you to create a desirable female figure.
What Size Implant Would Be Best for Me?
Though this is primarily a personal preference, Dr. Newall will offer recommendations based upon your goals and your physical frame. In addition, you will have the opportunity to try on different size implants using a bra that is designed for this purpose. This will allow you to visually determine which size you desire.
What Type of Implant is Best for Me?
Silicone and saline are the two most common types of implants used for breast augmentation. Silicone implants were approved for availability by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006 after years of studying silicone’s effects on the body. Many women prefer silicone implants because they consider them to have a softer and more natural feel than saline implants. Because silicone implants are pre-filled, a slightly longer incision may be required to insert them into the body. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water after they are placed inside the body.
Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?
If you are in good health overall and are unhappy with the look of your breasts, then you are a good candidate for breast implants. It is important to share your medical history, as well as your aesthetic goals with Dr. Newall. During your consultation with Dr. Newall, he will discuss your preferences regarding size and breast implant type, and you will have the opportunity to try on different sizes of implants with a special bra in order to help you determine the size you want. By sitting down and talking with you during your private consultation, he is able to get an idea of what you are looking for.
Breast Implant Surgery Recovery
You will most likely be able to return to work five to six days after your breast implant procedure. Suture removal takes place seven to 10 days after the surgery. Exercise and other activities may be resumed approximately one month after surgery. These are average estimates as all patients heal differently.
Where will the procedure be performed?
Breast Implant surgery is performed at our award-winning ACPS, The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS), which is the largest private plastic surgery center in Texas. The ACPS exceeds accepted standards for private surgical facilities and is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The ACPS offers four surgical suites, pre-operative consultation suites, and seven comfortable post-operative recovery suites, all staffed with medical professionals handpicked by our surgeons.
What is Breast Implant Removal?
Breast implant removal is a surgery performed to remove the breast implant. This surgery is performed for a number of reasons, such as:
- Capsule Contracture – This is one of the most common complications of breast implant augmentation surgery. Capsule contracture occurs when the scar tissue that normally forms around the implant tightens and squeezes the implant. This can make the breast feel hard and even distort the appearance of the breast.
- Rupture/Deflation – This can happen at any time and can go unnoticed if the rupture is small. If you are experiencing a decreased breast size, uneven size of breasts, pain or tenderness, tingling, swelling, numbness, burning, or changes in sensation or lumps, these can all be signs of rupture or deflation and you should seek the attention of your surgeon. The longer an implant has been placed, the higher the risk.
- Desire For A New Size/Look – After living with your breast implants for a while, you may decide that you would like to change size or type of implant. You also may want to remove your implants entirely and go back to a more natural look.
