Buccal Fat Removal (Cheek Reduction) in Houston, TX

WHAT IS BUCCAL FAT REMOVAL?

Buccal fat removal (Bichectomia) is a procedure that removes the buccal fat pad from the cheeks. People with full cheeks desire this procedure to create a softer slimmer facial appearance.

The procedure can take place under local anesthesia as an in-office minor procedure or in the operating room under general anesthesia which is typical in combination with other procedures. Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Germán Newall typically performs buccal fat removal in combination with neck liposuction. (The patient pictured above had liposuction of the neck in combination with neck liposuction)

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A BUCCAL FAT REMOVAL?

Once the anesthesia takes place, Dr. Newall will begin to create a small incision inside the mouth along the cheeks. Once the incision is made he will cut out the buccal fat pad from the cheek. Once the fat pad is extracted he will place absorbable sutures to close the incision.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY FOR BUCCAL FAT REMOVAL?

Recovery is typically a week and swelling will continue to decrease over several weeks. Follow the post-op recovery instructions given to you by Dr. Newall and the staff. Patients can typically return to work within a week.

Dr. German Newall, a board-certified plastic surgeon, focuses on the needs of his patients and assures that you will be met with a caring, dedicated, and experienced staff.
